Before your calf comes home, two acronyms matter: PIC and NLIS. They're simpler than they sound.
A PIC identifies the property where livestock are kept. You'll need one to own cattle, even a single pair on a small block. Your state department of agriculture issues them, usually free or low-cost.
NLIS tracks cattle movements for biosecurity and traceability. When your animal moves to you, the transfer is recorded against your PIC. We handle this with you so nothing is missed.
A seller's PIC is also a trust signal — you can check it on the NLIS database. Always do, and always pay against a proper contract.
